what is an easy and fun way to get into woodworking?
i’d like to start some small projects, but don’t know where to start. Thanks.
I would give you two suggestions. First – Join woodnet. Its an online forum of woodworkers. Second – Subscribe to a good woodworking mag. One that I like for beginners is called Popular Woodworking. They have a monthly article and plans section called “I can do that”. It documents the steps for simple projects for people without a lot of tools who are just starting out.

I am desperately seeking a personal loan for debt consolidation and to start a woodworking business. Help!?
I am a retired Marine with 2 children. My objective is to roll all my debts into one single obligation which I can guarantee with my military retirement as an allotment to repay this debt. I am willing to pay an interest rate of up to 18% if possible. I am also interested in starting a high quality woodworking business which I will provide 30% of the revenues for the 1st year being reduced by 5% per year till the debt is paid. I would like an opportunity to speak with a lender directly on these matters. Sincerely, Ron
The glaring keyword in your question is the word “desperately.” If you are desperate for a loan it sorta tells me you’ve made some bad financial decisions already and I don’t know if rolling debt to one loan, adding high (18%?) interest AND taking out even more unsecured debt for a business loan is a wise decision for your future. What you really need is a plan… a repayment plan for what you already have and a business plan for your woodworking business. Are you willing to tap into your retirement now? What will you have in retirement? I strongly suggest that you seperate the two actions… get out of debt and then look into a business loan once you have the means to support it. You cannot continue to go deeper in debt if you can’t see yourself bailing out of the debt you already have. I don’t want to sound mean or negative here but rather being honest about your current and future situations. It sounds like you have goals but do you have a plan to achieve them? You should be talking with a bank and/or credit union and possibly with the SBA or military financial counselor to help you manage things better. The word “desperately” is an indicator that you are not happy with the way things are now. It’s okay to want to change things for the better but your intentions sound like a mistake just waiting to be made.
