I bought the Tech Angle Snap-ON 3/8″ and 1/2″ Most modern cars have torque to this spec then torque to this spec loosen all the bolts torque to this spec and then draw 90 degrees and 75 degrees to stretch the bolts Tech Angle will do that + or- 1 degree. And you will want to replace the fasteners when they measure to thin in the specified area. So you will need a good digital caliper too. Just depends what your doing and how often you build engines. How do you adjust the rockerarm on a 72 302 ford V-8?

So I have a 72 302 in a 66 coupe. Head gasket went bad so I changed it.

if you have adjustable rockers then you went to far. back all the rockers off one turn and start over, the set screws are there to lock the adjusting nut into place. the adjustment procedure he gave you is correct for a hydraulic cam but i wonder if you have a mechanical cam and not a hydraulic cam. mechanical cams have to be cold when adjusted and you need to use a feeler gauge. if you have a mechanical cam then the way you adjusted the rockers will cause the vehicle not to run. the only way i know how to tell is by looking at a lifter or getting the numbers off the cam and calling the manufacture. good luck

Choosing Folding Sliding Doors / Bi Fold Doors – A Giude For What To Look For And A Review Of 30 Companies.(Timber Only)

With so many folding sliding door companies out there it can be daunting deciding who to place your hard earned cash with. We will place companies 1st 2nd out of 30 companies that we looked at.

This article will simply try and show you what to look for and who is the company that is getting it all right. This is a guide for timber doors so if you definitely want aluminium then this may not be for you. However with timber very much in fashion and much more tactile, energy efficient and made from renewable sources then maybe you want to think again.

Folding sliding doors, or bi fold doors have become the must have item in homes today. They allow the owner to open up a large part of a wall where once may have only had a 2m French door. Now 4m 5m or 6m is not uncommon. Lets look at the bad bits that many manufacturers do:

• Europe is cheap! many companies choose not to produce in the UK and instead use countries such as Poland and Lithuania to keep their costs down. When it comes to folding sliding doors this can be where things go wrong. Doors are mass produced and often sold as standard sizes. If your door goes wrong then you are relying upon a factory 1000s of miles away and often items are delayed, faulty, made incorrectly and very often damaged due to the extensive transport of what is after all a delicate material. (dents, scratches on paint, and crack glass are the many problems people encounter) This you may think is not a problem, but try saying that when the rain is driving in and you are still 3 weeks away from getting your replacement doors as the first set were damaged. • Construction is vital! Construction of your folding sliding doors is probably one of the most important factors. Most of the companies who produce in Europe do not adopt the traditional joinery methods that we would come to expect in the UK. Doors are often butt jointed using dowels. This extract was taken from Google and explains clearly the risks with fitting them to furniture let alone doors:

The technique consists of cutting the members to size and then drilling a series of holes in the joint surface of each member. Holes are often drilled with the assistance of a dowelling jig which aids in accurate hole placement – accuracy is paramount in this technique to ensure members line up perfectly in the completed joint. The holes are drilled such that there are corresponding holes in each member into which short dowels are inserted with some glue. The joint is brought together and clamped until the glue has dried.

This produces a joint which is much stronger than a butt joint without reinforcement. The dowels offer some holding strength even after the glue has deteriorated. Over time, dowels may shrink and become loose. They take on an oval shape in section owing to the different rate at which wood moves with different orientations of the grain. Loose dowels allow the joint to flex, although it may not fall apart. This phenomenon is evident in creaking chairs and wobbling book cases. For this reason, dowel joints are not preferred for high-quality furniture

For that reason we would strongly advise that you use companies that use traditional joinery methods such as mortise and tenon joints or comb joints incorporated in the doors that Valdi and Fairoak use. Our pick would be 1st Valdi – www.valdi.com and 2nd Fairoak – www.fairoak.co.uk

• Glass is not just Glass! When you look at a beautiful set of folding sliding doors you often don’t see what in front of your nose. Yes we all ask what is the U value of the glass because our architect or buildings regulations have told us what it needs to be. However a lot of companies will use different grades of glass. Firstly we would recommend that you always have toughened glass for safety and security and is often something that building regs will look for. Glass Should have a EN number relating to the pendulum impact test, if its laminated glass remember that it is secure against someone smashing the window but the reality of someone targeting your folding doors rather than a small side window are rather low . For companies that produce in Europe the glass may not even meet British standards as they will not come with a Kite mark unless they are etched in the UK once proof is made that they meet the requirements. Glass has been seen in varied thickness even on the same set of doors and with long distance travel the lumps and bumps of the road cause cracks that aren’t always visible straight away. Add a bit of hot sunshine along with a cold night and that crack becomes very noticeable. A lot to choose from but due to their range of choices or an ability to use whatever glass you require we have gone with Valdi and Fairoak top and Dendura-  www.valdi.com and wwwfarioak.co.uk
• Hinges and Tracks! Imagine how many times you open and close your back door in the space of a year. Well double the weight and add in the factors such as it is sliding on a track with rollers and you want to make sure your doors work as good as they do today in another 5 years time. Most of the better companies use a hinge manufacturer called Centor. If the doors don’t have these hinges walk away…. Sorry but that counts out a lot of budget doors and also the folding sliding door company. The Centor hinges are tested to 50,000 and some parts to 100,000 cycles, made from high grade stainless steel and come with a 10 year guarantee. PVD Brass is also available for the more traditional look. What more can we say. A lot to choose from but Valdi and Fairoak came out on top again when considering all other factors. Also unless you really can’t do it always go for a top hung system like centor as they will give you that effortless glide. Bottom run systems are best with Coburn Fasarde and are normally used when not lintel can be utilized. 
• Locks Although most doors will have some sort of dead bolt system, nowadays insurance companies are asking for a multipoint or multi leaver locking system. This surprisingly was and area where many fell up. Dendura, Fairoak and Valdi, Carey Fox all offer a multipoint lock so well done!

You will probably have many other questions but we hope that this gives you the main points to look for. Our top picks as you can see are 1st Valdi 2nd Fairoak and 3rd Dendura

Our reasons for choosing Valdi Beautifully Bespoke Folding Sliding Doors – are as follows.

1) Great products built using traditional mortise and tenon and comb joints so you know that your doors will look just as good in years to come.

2) They produce in the UK and for us that is great. Being able to go and look at the doors in production (not that you probably will) is a reassuring prospect. It also is a thumbs up for commitment to manufacture in the UK when much is going aboard to be made cheaply… sorry China!

3) Choice of 6 sill types only 1 of which adds any real cost (the flush patio sill). Apparently this is due to it being custom made using stainless steel and they say can be made to varied specification.

4)   They don’t rip you off. We asked them about the cost of taller doors and while others charge per mm higher you go, Valdi simply add in the cost of the timber and glass, stating that it cost them the same to make a small door as it does to make a bigger one! Makes sense to me.

5)   As their name suggests they are bespoke and as such say that they will try at all times to accommodate peoples wishes such as blinds in the glass, half glazed doors, and dual colour so you can match old UPVC doors or patio doors while still keeping the oak on the inside. When your spending the money why shouldn’t you have the choice!

6) They don’t mass produce so your doors get the care they deserve.

7) Price was good… in fact we found that they were very good. Although not the cheapest, in our book this is a plus as most of the cheap ones we found faults galore! Having said all that they are by no means the most expensive and when considering everything they are great value for a truly crafted product.

They can deliver and fit if needed, however we think that this is where most buyers can save. Get a good joiner to fit them and you shouldn’t go wrong. If your concerned about warranties then leave it to the company you buy from.

9) They said that they are a bespoke joinery so they can produce windows, single doors, French doors, big glazed panels and so on.

10) Ultimately we felt that Valdi give a great choice at good value. If you can’t stretch the budget to Oak then try the Idigbo that looks like oak and is a cheaper hardwood. Otherwise softwood it is, but this we would suggest is much better painted than stained.

Remember that this is a key feature to you home and one that will definitely add value. I know its easy to say if I’m not spending the money but please make sure you follow our advice, we have seen laminated sill sections that have cracked and delaminated, doors that have opened up due to poor construction and water and heat causing them to separate, glass that is of poor quality and even people who 1 or 2 years after they have put in cheap door are now spending even more to have them removed and better ones put in. Don’t get caught out…. Good luck and enjoy the weather with your new doors.

Since this was first written we have heard that Cerey Fox and Valdi have both decided to have some products made in Europe. Valdi stated that “Not all of our products are made in Europe it is really only our Professional Range that is aimed purely at the trade customers where cost is much more of an issue. We have not allowed our quality to be compromised and the fact that we have a UK workshop means that we can rectify any problems quickly if the ever occur. We also have found that European winters can be much colder than the UK and as such this is why we have used their expertise to create our 3G range of triple glazed windows with U values of aprox 0.7″ Cerey Fox offer some products from Italy.

We still prefer to support UK products but also understand that companies have to offer the public what they want and in tough times it obviously shows that we are all a little price sensitive. If any other companies have had recent changes or updates do let us know.

Quest Uranium Corp. Is In A “rare” Position Indeed

As its name indicates, Quest Uranium started out in the uranium exploration business and still holds properties with excellent potential for that resource, but in the past two years its focus has turned mainly to the development of what could turn out to be a hugely profitable rare earth element (REE) project in Quebec. The current price of Quest’s stock certainly reflects the market’s belief that this is a company with a bright future in the production of metals for which there is a rapidly growing demand in numerous high tech applications. We spoke with Peter Cashin, Quest’s President & CEO, who clearly made a strong case for why his company was the best performing stock on the TSX-V Exchange in 2009, growing by over 5.530% during the year.

Resource Intelligence: Can you give us a brief rundown on how Quest got to be where it is at this point in time?
Peter Cashin: Well, Quest started as a spinoff from Freewest Resources and we had some 30 properties from the roll-in when I joined the company in 2007. That was way too many for a company our size to try to both hold and manage properly so we distilled that number down to six properties that we thought were worth concentrating our efforts on. Initially these were all uranium properties.

RI: How did you become a rare earth elements (REE) headliner?
PC: We were monitoring the status of claims around our Strange Lake holdings in the George River area of northeast Quebec and in the fall of 2007 we discovered that some claims adjoining ours on the Quebec side of the Labrador border were about to fall open and we immediately went in and restaked them for about $1,250 in staking costs. So we added about 600 hectares to our holdings of some 98,000 hectares in the area but those 600 may turn out to be some of the most valuable, at least at this point in time.

RI:  And what do you have on this huge land package?
PC: On what we call the “A” Zone on the Strange Lake Property, we hold the Québec portion of the Strange Lake REE-Zr-Y-Nb-Beryllium (Be) deposit which was discovered by the Iron Ore Company of Canada in the late 1970’s. A historical resource estimate, pre-NI 43-101 published by Venkatswaran in 1983 shows 52 million tonnes @ 3.25% ZrO2, 0.56% Nb2O5, 0.66% Y2O3, 0.12% BeO and 1.30% Total Rare Earth Oxides (TREO). On April 30, 2009, John Kaiser of Kaiser Bottom-Fishing Report put the in-ground gross value of the “A” Zone mineralization we currently control at about $4-billion. So, that was a great way to start out in the REE exploration space.

Then about 3 km NW of that we have a new discovery we call the “B” Zone which has a footprint about four times the size of the “A” Zone. We drilled that down to 150 m last fall and every single hole stopped in mineralization, so we don’t yet know how big it could be but the potential appears to be huge. The drill results confirmed strong REE mineralization over 1.1 km of strike, over widths of at least 500 m and over vertical thicknesses of up to 135.2 m. Quest now has 100% control of all of the favourable REE geology in and adjacent to our Strange Lake deposit. Our surface sampling returned spectacular grades of up to 14.43% Total Rare Earth Oxides (TREO), with Heavy Rare Earth Elements (HREE) representing between 7% and 67% of the total TREO component. We later confirmed the importance of the surface grades with diamond drilling, returning multiple, high-grade vertical intersections of between 1.03% and 3.74% TREO over widths of 3.0 and 38.5 m, within a larger, 135.85 m-thick, mineralized envelope grading between 0.9%-1.0% TREO.

RI: For those readers who aren’t familiar with them, what exactly are rare earth elements?
PC: The REEs are a series of 15 metals critical to the automotive, aerospace, high-tech, and nanotechnology industries. What are called the “light” REEs with atomic numbers 57 through 62 are: La=lanthanum Ce=cerium Pr = praseodymium, Nd = neodymium, Pr=promethium, Sm = samarium. The “heavy” REEs with numbers from 63 through 71 are: Eu=europium, Gd=gadolinium, Tb=terbium, Dy=dysprosium, Ho=holmium, Er=erbium, Tm=thulium, Yb=ytterbium Lu=lutetium. Currently, over 97% of the world’s rare earth metals are produced in China. With their abundant resources and low production costs they have a virtual monopoly as a source for these metals. China has placed strict controls on REE mining, production and export in order to maximise its own use of the resources.

RI: So how did China end up in that position?
PC: Well, during the 1990s and early 2000s, significant production surpluses and the resulting low REE prices led most non-Chinese rare earth producers to cease their operations and users to rely almost exclusively on Chinese supplies. With a curbing of exports from China and continued growth demand elsewhere, the supply demand deficit is causing great concern to major REE consuming countries like Japan, Korea, Taiwan, United States, which are now anxious to identify new sources of rare earths. With excellent prospects for growth in the hybrid auto battery manufacturing, aerospace and electronics industries, there’s a projected demand growth in REE of 8-11% per year and a very pressing need for new non-Chinese production capacity in the next three to five years.
If China sticks to its announced production and export limits, there’s a real prospect that, within five to ten years, they will only produce enough material to satisfy their domestic consumption. So, to meet the estimated global demand of 180-190,000t rare earth oxides (REO) in 2010, around 60,000t of new capacity will be needed to meet the unfulfilled demand from outside China. On top of that, it’s estimated that world demand could reach to 230,000 tonnes of REE per year by 2013, up from 135,000 tonnes in 2008. So it certainly appears that primary production is unlikely to keep up with the increasing demand.

RI:  Tell us a little about the metallurgy and structure of the Strange Lake Property.
PC: We have Hazen Research in Denver doing metallurgy testing on a one-tonne bulk sample of ore and it appears that we will be able to get good recoveries using conventional methods. Work done by IOC when they had the basic property indicated recoveries in the 70%-80+% range and we appear to be getting similar results. From a mining aspect, there appears to be virtually no overburden on the mineralization so we should be able to mine by open pit methods using conventional milling and flotation and have an expected total cost in the range of $110 and $125/t. At four-year average metals prices, it appears that the higher-grade surface mineralization should run, according to John Kaiser, between $325 and $425/t in gross value, so there should be a very nice margin in there.

RI: Strange Lake isn’t your only property with great potential. You recently announced some exciting news on your Misery Lake Property. Tell us about that.
PC: We are very excited about our Misery Lake property which lies approximately 120 km south of our Strange Lake project area. The rare earth potential of the Misery Lake area was first recognized by Quest exploration crews in August 2007 when they did reconnaissance bedrock sampling over a concentric magnetic feature which produced grab sample results of up to 27% Fe2O3, 1.2% P2O5, 1.5% TiO2 and 2.25% TREO including Yttrium. A total of 145 claims were staked to cover the anomalous feature in September 2007. The ring complex shows up as a 6-km diameter airborne magnetic anomaly and translates into a target feature that has a potential strike length continuation of approximately 20 km. We obtained grab samples from the “ring” which returned values of up to 8.56% Total Rare Earth Oxides, 42.3 % iron oxide, 7.12 % phosphate, 4.85 % titanium oxide, 3.05 % zirconium oxide, and 2.72 % niobium oxide. The geology is similar to the Lovozero Peralkaline Complex in Russia, which is their primary producing area for rare earths, niobium, tantalum, phosphate and zirconium. We recently identified new, high-priority REE targets to the south of the Misery Lake discovery which has led to the staking of 1,500 more mining claims covering approximately 60,000 hectares. So now the property consists of 1,776 claims, covering 794 km2 in Quebec and Labrador.

RI: It’s probably premature to speculate at this point, but when do you think it would be possible to expect to see some production from your Strange Lake properties and what do you think it would cost to get into production?
PC: We’ll definitely have a better idea when we have a feasibility study in hand but I personally think we could be breaking our first rock in about five years after a project Capex running in the order of $500 to $600 million.

RI: In closing, what points would you like investors to focus on in considering Quest as an attractive investment at this time?
PC: We believe that we have what it will take to make it all happen for our  shareholders: the high-value REE resources in the ground, the potential for developing much  more of them in the future, the financing we need at this time, and the experienced people to bring it all together.
